There are two main materials exterior parts are made from are...

  • Polyurethane and
  • Fiberglass

But recently a third material is rapidly gaining favor with car enthusiasts which is carbon fiber. However, no matter what kind of material you go for, it is still important to do all the necessary maintenance to uphold the condition of the part.

Between the two most commonly offered choices for body kits are fiberglass and polyurethane, both offer some appeals and drawbacks. Rugged polyurethane body kits are flexible and durable enough to last for a long period of time and doesn't damage easily.

Polyurethane Body Kits

Polyurethane is flexible and resistant to rough weather conditions and everyday road hazards. Because of its flexibility and light weight, body kits made out of polyurethane are usually easier to install. There are several companies for manufacture car body kits using high quality polyurethane, all are very reputable in brand name. If stability is what you are looking for then polyurethane body kits is the one right for you.

Fiberglass Body Kits

Fiberglass, on the other hand is less expensive, roughly half as much for materials as a polyurethane body kits. It is crucial to choose the highest quality fiberglass for body kits. Many companies create bad quality body kits containing wavy patterns on the fiberglass and unsatisfactory fit. Fiberglass body kits that are hand laid have no waves and are not brittle or weak. When body kits are hand laid, the body kits will be uniform and will have an even amount of fiberglass throughout the component. Hand laid fiberglass body kits takes the longest, and costs the most but is worth it. There are a number of companies who make reasonable body kits using high quality fiberglass. Fiberglass body kits can be repaired if the damage is not too extensive.

Carbon fiber Body Kits

Carbon fiber is the third type of material used in body kits. Carbon fiber is used in a variety of industries, including racing, aerospace, weapons technology and much more. This material is incredibly lightweight and is some of the strongest available. A piece of carbon fiber compared to a similarly sized piece of steel is much stronger than that much vaunted metal, not to mention lighter and rust proof to boot. This is fast becoming a popular choice for more and more car enthusiasts.
