Three types of Materials Body Kits are made of

When choosing your exterior parts, it is important to keep in mind that they are made out of a variety of substances. Quality will vary depending on the manufacturer. The most common types are fiberglass, polyurethane, and carbon fiber.

Like anything else, the key to satisfaction with body kits, is to put in the necessary time and effort to find the model that meets your wants and needs. With so many options, a little bit of planning on your investment and goals will ensure a good find.

Fiberglass Body Kits

Fiberglass Body Kits are usually the most affordable. Fiberglass Body Kits generally maintains a better fit and is easily repaired even if slightly more fragile than the other two types of body kits. It also has a better finish than urethane body kits, and the paint will look cleaner and more professional.

Polyurethane Body Kits

Polyurethane body kits are far more flexible and impact resistant. All OEM bumpers today are made of urethane. Most major manufacturers pf body kits also use urethane bumpers because it is more forgiving of impacts and holds up much better than fiberglass. In addition, urethane doesn't crack like fiberglass in cold weather. With it being more forgiving, you are able to bump a parking curb and not significantly damage your car, whereas a fiberglass bumper would more than likely break or crack. These body kits are also much easier to install as they can be flexed and manipulated to get a better fit.

Carbon Fiber Body Kits

Another alternative to consider is carbon fiber body kits. While this is the most expensive option, it can offer auto enthusiasts a unique look. They are super light which reduces the overall weight of the vehicle and they are really strong. Carbon fiber is a material that is often used in making bullet proof vest and other bullet hindering materials. Carbon fiber kits can also be painted and the finish is closest to that of fiber glass. The cons of carbon fiber besides its cost is they are presently not widely available for many vehicles. However, the upside is that more carbon fiber kits are being added to the market and will soon be available for many vehicles as time go on.

Something to think about, body kits that do not ultimately provide a perfect fit will end up costing much more in installation fees, or in time, for those working themselves. Thus, it is prudent for new body kit aficionados to invest a little more in a better and more reliable kit.
