Tips on Installing Body Kits
If you have never worked with exterior car parts, you might consider having a person with experience install the parts of your kit. On the other hand, if you know your way around a car and have the time and place to install all the parts, then that'll work too. The best tip I can give you besides experience is having the right tools is a major key to getting great results in the installation of body kits.
Tip 1
Installation of body kits is fairly straight forward. When assembling body kits, it is a good idea to have an assistant present because not all of the parts in the kit are small and a extra set of hands will make the job go allot easier.
Tip 2
First, plan your project. Consider any and all related tasks that will need to be done such as adjusting the suspension to match the body kits specifications. Only start the job when you have all the parts you need to complete the project. A little planning before you start can save a lot of problems later.
Tip 3
Before you permanently install any part, be sure to "dry fit" each piece. Basically there are two types of body kits...
- Lip Body Kits
- Replacement Body Kits
With lip body kits, the task is simply dry fit and inspect for proper fitting. With full body kits, also known as replacement body kits, you first have to remove the part, such as the front bumper completely from the vehicle and then dry fit the new bumper.
When you dry fit all the parts, you will be making sure that each piece will fit properly and find out which part(s) may need to be adjusted in order to make it fit perfectly. It may involve trimming, grinding and filling gaps in order to have all the parts fit the contour of the car. Once everything is set then you can go ahead and start installing all the parts.
Tip 4
On the subject of safety, it is essential that you have a safe and clean working environment. Take this tip from the professionals and think safety.
