Purpose for Wide Body Kits
You'll notice that many rally cars and high performance race cars have front and rear bumpers which are not of the same design as sport cars sold at your local car dealerships. In addition, the sides are different too. Although they do look cool, these body kits serve a purpose and are not just for looks. For instance, race cars use wider tires for better grip and traction with the road surface. Wider bumpers, fenders and side skirts are designed to contain the wider wheels fitted to the car and prevent stones flying up and out.
In addition, aerodynamics affects the way the air flow drags along the tires extending beyond the vehicles body. Body kits with aerodynamic designs in the bumpers and side skirts will help the car slice through the air with greater ease, making the vehicle travel faster.
After market body kits simply replaces the stock bumpers and adds side skirts to widen the cars body. By widening the stance of the cars body through the use of body kits, wider and lower profile racing wheels can be added for stability on the road.
Body kits are commonly made out of two types of materials...
- Fiberglass Body Kits
- Urethane Body Kits
Fiberglass is the cheaper of the two body kits and can be repaired when damaged. Fiberglass, however, is prone to damages compared to Urethane. Urethane body kits are more forgiving during installation since urethane is flexible. Knowing what your needs are will help you choose between the two materials these kits are made of. Doing your homework before buying any type of exterior accessories will save you time and money in the future.
Beside your choice of body kits, you can add other exterior accessories such as...
- spoilers
- front and rear flares/fenders
- front and rear diffusers
- door panels
- carbon fiber hoods
