Buying Body Kits
You should look at purchasing exterior parts as an investment of your time and money. The more homework you do now, will give you the ability to make a good choice when it's time to buy. The rest of this article covers some factors you should keep in mind when shopping.
Body kits come in all kinds of styles, materials and qualities. There are basically three styles of body kits you can choose from...
- lip body kits
- replacement body kits
- wide body kits
Most common Materials Body Kits are made from
Body kits are usually made from fiberglass, polyurethane, or carbon fiber. Carbon fiber body kits are the best material to use, at least for racing because it is lightweight and strong. However, it's the most expensive. Polyurethane body kits and fiberglass body kits are also light and not as expensive as carbon fiber body kits. Fiberglass body kits are more rigid and tend to crack easier then polyurethane body kits and carbon fiber body kits.
Retailers of Body Kits
Once you've pick the body kits style, and material, it's time to decide who to buy from. There are a lot of retailers offering body kits, and the quality will vary as much as the price. Keep close attention to the quality of the body kits. If the fit is less than perfect, you're going to be paying much more for installation fees or if you're do it yourself, you will be investing more time making it fit properly. This is where doing your homework on body kits will pay off. For the most part, dealing with name brand manufactures, you know those body kits will be of good quality.
Searching on the Internet for body kits is a great place to gather information and find retailers selling good quality body kits at comparative prices. One good tip when dealing with Internet Retailers is to make contact with them before you buy. Two of the best ways to communicate is via email or phone. If you email, send questions that are important to you. Don't be shy, there is no such thing as a dump question. If you get a response back to your question(s) implying that you should already know the answer or they treat your email with little importance... then immediately move onto the next retailer who sells body kits.
Take note how long it take each retailer in responding to your email. On an average, it should take no longer then one business day. Two business days if they give you a reasonable explanation for their delay, such as it took them an extra day to gather all the information you had requested, after all, they are human.
The second method of contact is to pick up the phone, call and talk to someone. Chances are really good that by talking to someone, you will get a good feel of who you're dealing with.
Remember, body kits of poor quality will cost you more then body kits of good quality which will not only save installation cost but will turn your vehicle into that awesome street machine.
